Contract Telephone Interviewer Application!
Thank you for your interest in our contract interviewer program.
You will be working as a telephone interviewer doing direct research by calling individuals and asking them to participate in a telephone survey. You will then read them the questions and fill in their responses on-line through our website. The list of people you will call, as well the questionnaire will all be handled through our site.
The normal calling hours are 5:30-9:30 pm (EST), Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm (EST) on Saturday, and 12 to 9:30 pm (EST) on Sunday.
Most of the projects you will be working on are political - asking people who they would vote for in specific elections, how they feel about candidates, issues, etc. Occasionally you may do work on a market research project for a newspaper, bank, or other type of business. We also do some direct surveys for state and local governments.
You will be working on a contract basis, which means you'll be paid for each interview you complete. The rate per interview varies depending upon the length of the survey. For example, some projects might pay you $5 per completed interview. We anticipate you should be able to do 3 to 4 of these per hour. Longer surveys may pay you 6,7, or 8 dollars, but you may only be able to do 2 to 3 an hour.
At this point interviewers on the system are making $13.25 to $25.00 per hour. Obviously, those who have been interviewing longer, and have more experience in convincing people to participate in the survey you are conducting, make more money.
As a contractor, you will be responsible for the cost of phone calls, so you'll need to have an inexpensive, unlimited long distance calling plan on your phone. For example, if you currently have a cell phone, you might pay an additional $10 per month to add free minutes after 7pm. You could then work from 7 to 9:30 with no additional cost on your phone. Any weekend time under this plan would be free. You may also be able to get an unlimited land line connection from ATT or another carrier for $33 a month. This would allow you to make calls from 5:30 to 9:30, the normal hours. Another inexpensive option is voice over IP (VoIP). This is an internet based system that requires a broadband connection. The cost of these lines vary from $17-$30 a month. We have created a PDF of some of the phone options you may consider if you don't already have an inexpensive, unlimited plan. Click here to view PDF of phone options.
If you are interested, we can make an appointment for you to call into our 800 line and give you the instructions for logging into the system and doing a practice interview with one of our staff members. This will help you decide if this is something you want to try.
In summary, to do this work you will need:
- Access to a computer with high speed (DSL or cable) internet access.
- A quite place to work where you will not be disturbed.
- A land line, cell phone, or Voice over IP phone line with an inexpensive, unlimited calling plan.
- We recommend having a caller ID block put on your phone so that people you are calling don't have your personal number.
Again, thank you for your interest. Please call 443 552 5045 if you have more questions or email us at jobs@publicopinionresearch.net. I look forward to working with you.
